At a Glance
The Silent Whistle ("we," "our," or "us") uses only the minimum data required to understand how listeners discover the band and to keep the website performing well. We never sell visitor data, we do not run targeted advertising, and we treat analytics as high-level insights rather than personally identifying information.
1. Information We Collect
- Technical data such as IP address, browser type, device/OS information, and general location derived from IP (city/region level only).
- Usage patterns including pages viewed, scroll depth, referral sources, and outbound link clicks (e.g., to Spotify or Facebook).
- Consent state stored locally in your browser so the cookie banner remembers your choice.
We do not knowingly collect data from visitors under 16 years of age.
2. How We Use Data
Data is reviewed in aggregate to understand which songs, sections, or announcements resonate with fans. Specific uses include:
- Measuring which streaming links are tapped most frequently.
- Detecting layout or performance issues on certain screen sizes.
- Confirming that marketing posts actually drive visits.
We do not use analytics data to build individual profiles or run targeted ads.
3. Analytics Tools in Use
- Google Analytics 4 – anonymized IP storage, 26‑month retention, used for page performance and traffic trends.
- Meta Pixel – measures the effectiveness of Facebook posts featuring the band; no retargeting audiences are built.
4. Cookies & Local Storage
The site uses a lightweight consent cookie so the banner does not reappear on every visit, along with analytics cookies set by Google and Meta. You can:
- Decline cookies in the banner to prevent analytics from loading.
- Clear your browser cookies/local storage or use the consent controls below.
- Enable "Do Not Track" in your browser; we honor that signal by disabling analytics scripts.
5. Data Sharing & Retention
- No data is sold or rented to third parties.
- Cloudflare (hosting provider) processes visitor IPs to deliver fast, secure pages and automatically deletes transient logs.
- Analytics platforms retain aggregated event data for up to 26 months before automatic deletion.
6. Third-Party Links
Streaming services, social platforms, and merchandise links each apply their own privacy policies after you click through. Please review their documentation—especially Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Bandcamp, and Facebook—before sharing personal information on those sites.
7. Your Rights & Choices
- Request a summary of the analytics data associated with your visit (identified by IP/User-Agent).
- Ask us to delete analytics events tied to your IP address, where technically feasible.
- Opt out of cookies at any time via browser controls or the banner reset.
- California residents may request disclosure of categories of data collected within the past 12 months.
- EU/UK residents may exercise GDPR rights (access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection).
8. Updates to This Policy
We review this document whenever we add new integrations or change hosting providers. Material updates will be highlighted on the homepage and in the project changelog. Previous versions are archived in the public GitHub repository for transparency.
